RICHARD G. WANTZ, 89, of Homewood Retirement Community, Williamsport, Maryland, formerly of Hagerstown and Naples Florida died on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Meritus Medical Center. Born November 6, 1922 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Hiram B. Wantz, Sr. and Vivian E Grove Wantz. Richard was President of Farmers & Merchants Bank from 1966 until 1985; and Senior Vice President of Equitable Bancorporation. Before entering banking, he was President of the W.F. Prior Publishing Company. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He was past Chairman of the Washington County Economic Development Commission and the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon, Elder and President of the Consistory. Richard is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Helen Stonebraker Wantz; two sons, Thomas Wantz of Hagerstown and William Wantz and his wife Cathy of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert A. Wantz and two grandchildren, Nicole Wantz and Toby Wantz. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hiram B. Wantz, Jr. and Charles D. Wantz. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Kevin S. Munroe will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
