RICHARD JOHN SODERGREN, Sr., 71, of Hagerstown, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 18, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He previously resided in Suffolk, Virginia, Columbia, South Carolina and Homestead, Florida. Born December 4, 1939 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Eugene V. Sodergren, Sr. and Shirley L. Morgan Sodergren. He was retired from Pangborn Corporation and GST Auto Leather. He was previously employed with Henson & Son and Can-Am Steel. He attended Hagerstown High School and Boonsboro High School. He was of Baptist faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, hunting in Wyoming and Canada, also an avid Baltimore Ravens, NASCAR fan and liked his horse racing. He was a former member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 211, Greencastle Sportsman Club and Izaak Walton League. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Nellie R. Sodergren; a son, Richard J. Sodergren, Jr.; grandchildren, Rebecca Mana and husband, Robert, Tonya Murray and husband, Anthony and Anthony Sodergren and Emily Sodergren; daughter-in-law, Tammy Sodergren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene V. Sodergren, Jr. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Walt Roberts and Rev. Ronald K. Faith will officiate. Burial will be the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
