Richard Lee Simons, Sr., of Hagerstown, passed away on January 20, 2026 at Williamsport Retirement Village in Williamsport, MD. He was 85 years old. He was born on September 17, 1940 in Petersville, MD. He was the son of the late Reno Harp Simons and Eleanor Gertrude Beachley.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1960. He acquired special training in electronics and spent the majority of his life in that field. In recent years, he attended Cornerstone Community Church in Hagerstown, MD.

He is survived by five children, David M. Simons of Greencastle, PA, Steven S. Simons of Reading, PA, Larry N. Simons of Fairfield, PA, Cynthia L. Sell of Hagerstown, MD, and Wade R. Simons of Fairfield, PA. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard L. Simons, Jr., three brothers, Charles Hahn, James Beachley, and Sherwood Simons. He is survived by one sister, Patricia Shank, eight grandchildren, Emily, Evan, Maggie, Rebecca, Erin, Kaitlin, Jonathan, and Adam, and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helman Wagner Simons, who passed away in 2025.

Funeral arrangements have been made by Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown. There will be an open viewing on Thursday, January 29 from 6-8pm and graveside service on Friday, January 30 at 2pm at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
