RICHARD LEE MOATS, SR. 68, of National Pike, Hagerstown, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 17, 2007. Born November 20, 1939 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Grover R. and Arvilla Snyder Moats. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was retired from M & G Convoy and Craig Paving. He was a member of the Teamster Union Local 992 and Western Maryland Sportsman Club. He was a musician and the founding member of the Cedar Ridge Bluegrass Band. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Brenda Reburn Moats; daughter, Marjorie and husband Michael McDonald and son, Richard Lee, Jr. and wife Amy Moats both of Hagerstown, MD; five sisters, Charolotte Hose, June Cline, Esther and husband, Clair Brinton, Maryann and husband Charlie Landers, Gloria and husband, Wayne Bitner ; one brother, Dennis and wife Elaine Moats; grandchildren, Philip Kline, Rachel McDonald and Emma Moats all of Hagerstown, MD; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by infant son, Michael Andrew Moats; two sisters, Betty Jane Hose and Pauline G. Landis. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Dr. Larry Aikens, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Temple, Building Fund, 16221 National Pike, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. Military services at graveside will be presented by Morris Frock American Legion Post #42.
