Obituary

RICHARD BENNETT MENTZER, 82, of Gay Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital. Born August 27, 1927 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Samuel Bennett and Alice Suhr Mentzer. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-one years, Marlene Bachtell Mentzer. He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School class of 1946. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S.Army. Richard was employed by the City of Hagerstown, as a Motorcycle Policeman and the City Signal Department retiring in 1983 after thirty-one years of service. He was a member of the AMA, AOPA and HOG. He is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clover I. Holtzapple; a brother, Jay K. Mentzer. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Dwan Newsome will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 600 to 800 p.m.. The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Harley Owner�s Group, c/o the M&S Harley Davidson, 160 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17202.
