Richard Lee Maloy, Sr., affectionately known as "K-9," passed away peacefully in his hometown of Hagerstown, MD on June 27, 2023. Born on May 29, 1952, also in Hagerstown, Richard lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, surrounded by the love of his family and the community he held so dear.

Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 43 years of marriage with his loving wife, Connie Maloy. Together, they raised four children, Mary (husband, Charles Otzelberger) and Mark Obitts (twins), Terry, Michael, and Rick Maloy. Richard was blessed with many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. His love for his family was profound and evident in the time and care he devoted to them. His legacy will continue to live on through his family, including his sister, Debbie Smith, his brother, Merle Maloy (wife, Barb), and his many nieces and nephews.

Known for his friendly demeanor, Richard never met a stranger. He had a knack for striking up a conversation with anyone he came across, always leaving them with a smile. His openness and genuine interest in others made him a cherished member of his community. Richard's love for people was only matched by his love for life's simple pleasures.

A man of varied interests, Richard was a familiar face at the local pool hall and dart club. His competitive spirit and camaraderie brought joy to many an evening spent with friends. He was also a devoted fan of game shows, a passion that was a source of amusement and shared fun with his family. Despite the advent of digital news, Richard was an ardent daily reader of the newspaper, keeping himself informed and engaged with the world around him.

Richard's life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and community. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life, his dedication to his family, and his zest for life's simple pleasures all served as a model for those who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.
