RICHARD EARL DAVIS, 85 of Herndon, VA, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 17, 2016 at his home in Herndon, VA. Born in Ridgely, WV, on January 31, 1931, he was the son of the late Ralph G. Davis and Leah Virginia O'Neal Davis. Richard was a patriot who had a deep love for family and country and was very proud of his military service. He served in the Korean Conflict, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant and received several medals and commendations before completing his tour of duty. After the war, Richard apprenticed for and became a skilled stone & marble mason. Over the years, he worked on many buildings, bridges, and landmarks such as The Key Bridge, The Kennedy Center, and The National Cathedral. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees and was a fifty year member of the Local #2 Stone and Marble Masons of Washington. Richard is survived by his daughter, Marsha Scott and Son-In-Law CJ Scott of McLean, Virginia; his Granddaughter, Jena Tidler of Denver, Colorado; his sister, Norma Lapp of LaVale, Maryland, and several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Tootsie. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Davis; two brothers, Wade and Bill Davis, and a sister Virginia Lambert. Services will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, Maryland on Monday, October 24, 2016. The Pastor Bill Divelbiss will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, Maryland. The viewing will be from 10:00am to 12:00 pm followed by a short memorial service from 12:00 to 12:30. The burial processional will leave Minnich Funeral Home for Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington County Amvets, 770 Frederick Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740. It was Richard's wish to be buried with military honors. As they do for so many of our nation's veterans, Amvets is coming to the burial to make his wish come true.
