Raymond "Toots" Arthur Poffenberger, 89, of Myersville, MD, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Fahrney Keedy Home in Boonsboro, MD.
Born April 4, 1928 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Jacob Berman and Mildred E. (Knodle) Poffenberger.
Raymond was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Frostburg State Teachers College. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Myersville, MD. He was employed as a teacher with the Washington County Board of Education. Most of his career was with the Outdoor School. Raymond and his wife would spend summers as camp counselors at Camp Keewaydin in Vermont. Both were avid conservationists and loved the outdoors.
He is survived by a brother, Robin Poffenberger; and 12 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Doris M. Poffenberger; one sister, Betty Zajicek; and two brothers, Ronald Poffenberger and Robert Poffenberger.
A Memorial Service will be held 4pm Sunday, March 11, 2018 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 10346 Church Hill Road, Myersville, MD. Rev. David Howell will officiate.
