Obituary

Raymond Randall "Randy" Petty Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on November 24, 2024, in his hometown of Hagerstown, MD. Born on April 12, 1951, to the late Raymond Randall Petty Sr. and Virginia Petty, Randy was a beacon of love and wisdom to all who knew him.

Randy was a proud alum of North Hagerstown High School, where he was a standout football player and a member of the wrestling team. Following his high school tenure, he answered the call to serve his country and became a respected veteran of the Navy. After his military service, Randy dedicated many years to the Maryland State Department of Corrections at MCI, where he retired after a long commendable career. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking man of dedication and commitment.

In his personal life, Randy was the loving husband to Nina Petty, his partner for many years. Together, they raised a family that included four sons, Jeremy Petty and wife Brittany, Michael Petty, Joshua Petty, and Nathan Petty. Also, he is survived by his daughter, Krista Bloom, and her husband Tim. Randy's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Braden, Rylie, Rhyan, McKayla, Mariah, Alyssa, Cameron, Maggie, and Abbey all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.

Randy's brothers, Barry, Greg, and Mick Petty, will fondly remember their times together, filled with laughter and camaraderie. His mother, Virginia Petty, will miss the warmth and love of her son dearly.

An ardent sports enthusiast, Randy could often be found cheering on his favorite teams—the Boston Red Sox, Maryland Terrapins, and Cleveland Browns. His passion for sports was not just that of a spectator; he was an active participant, enjoying regular golf outings and bowling nights with friends and family during his healthy years. Randy's impressive collection of sports cards was a testament to his love for the games and the history behind them.

Randy's intelligence shone brightly through his love for puzzles and game shows, which he tackled with a strategic mind and a joyful heart. He was a man who found pleasure in the simple things, and his ability to solve the most challenging puzzles was a metaphor for the way he approached life's complexities—with patience and determination.

Described by those who knew him best as loving, intelligent, and passionate, Randy lived a life that was full and rich. He was a source of strength and inspiration, and his guidance and affection will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Randy's passing leaves a void in the lives of his family and friends, but they take comfort in the countless memories and the enduring impact of his presence. His laughter, his wisdom, and his unwavering support will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched.

As Randy's later years were affected by many health issues and obstacles, he still pushed through with the help of his close family and his beloved grandkids' joys. His body was beaten and broken, but no one could take his mind. Nights of watching sports, tv shows, and talking about the good times were just the medicine to keep him going till he finally couldn't.

Randy's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be cremated and brought to rest in his family's home in Hagerstown, MD.

Your time here on earth has come to an end, but I know we will all be together again. You never will be fully gone as you will always be here in our hearts and minds. And your legacy will live forever!!
