Obituary

Raymond Lee Doyle, 85, of Falling Waters, Martinsburg, WV, passed away at Hilltop Assisted Living, Winchester, VA, on April 9, 2024.

Born in Boonsboro, MD, on January 27, 1939, he was the third child of the late Lewis Edgar Doyle and Edna Irene Forrest-Doyle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley and Elaine and only daughter, Melissa Sue Doyle.

He was a very nice man, reliable worker, loved by his friends and wife, Maria Trevizan-Doyle.

He was a Shepherd College Graduate and an outstanding Baseball and Basketball player.

Raymond won 443 Batting Crowns in the South Mountain Baseball league in 1948 at just 9 years old.

When he was 18 years old, as a third baseman for the Sharpsburg Bluebirds, he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. He turned in one of the greatest one-man batting performances ever seen at Hagerstown's Municipal Stadium.

He worked for 54 years at Columbia Rubber, as a salesman and always said he was treated as a family member by that company.

He was passionate about his job and used to take good care of his customers.

Raymond officially retired in 2021 due to his health.

He was the most generous, funny, and upbeat man.

He loved Maryland Basketball, Golf, Horse Racing and turned everyone he met into friends.

He was loved by everyone who got to know him.

He was very proud of his closest friends, Joel Rice, Danny Priebag, Jae Sanders, Ed Kipe, Ray Kohlhepp, Jim Moss, Donnie Gower, Mae Suryndee, Reny and Tim Flynn, Elena Pereira, and his wife, Maria Doyle.

He enjoyed being among friends and always had a funny story to tell everybody and make people laugh.

His wife Maria used to say that the television show "Everybody loves Raymond was inspired by him".

Raymond loved his dogs and treated them as family members.

He was a caring, kind, honest and loving person.

He will be missed by everyone who was lucky to know him.

A Celebration of life will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, at 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, on May 29 at 6.00 pm.

Those attending will have an opportunity to share a memory of Ray.
