Ray “Jim” Leon Haines, Sr., 97, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on July 24, 2026.
Born Sept. 9, 1928, in Big Spring, MD, he was the son of the late Robert Garland Haines and Pearl Elizabeth (Mullen) Haines Bridendolph. A lifelong resident of the Hagerstown area, Jim retired following a long career at the Pangborn Corporation.
Jim was a lifetime member at the Little Club in Hagerstown and frequented the Williamsport Redmen, where he had many friends. Known for his generous heart, he spent decades caring for local wildlife, rescuing neighborhood strays, and donating blood at local drives.
Jim was preceded in death by his wives, Thelma D. (Barr) Haines and Aletta M. (Childress) Haines; his daughter, Judy Lee Haines; his son, Ray Leon Haines, Jr.; his grandchildren, Tracy Lynn Viar and Jennifer Dawn Moore; and his siblings, Mabel Elizabeth Scott, Helen Haines, and Robert Haines.
He is survived by his grandsons, William Todd Viar and James Allen Haines, along with extended family and friends.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who offered kindness, companionship, and support to Jim throughout his long and meaningful life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A viewing will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 6:00-8:00pm.
The funeral will be held at 10:00am on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
