Ralph "Bud" Edgar Hess, Jr., 92, of Hagerstown, passed away, Monday, November 21, 2022, at Somerford Place.

Born March 29, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ralph E. Hess, Sr. and Mildred (Leedy) Hess.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School, Class of 1948 and attended Hagerstown Junior College. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, serving for four years. Bud was co-owner of Hess Auto Body Works and Hess Auto Supply for 40 years.

Bud loved golfing and watching the PGA Tour. He was a charter member of Beaver Creek Country Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Hagerstown Elks, Lodge #378, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and American Legion, Post #42. Bud was also a lifetime member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Hagerstown.

He loved spending time with his family and coached Little League when his sons were young. Bud liked bowling and his sports favorites were the Baltimore Orioles, Colts and Ravens and the Maryland Terrapins.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judith (Long) Hess; two sons, Brian Hess (Marianne) and Douglas Hess, two sisters, Joan Milligan and Doris Smith; grandchildren, Michael, Angela, Matthew, Luke and Jenna Hess; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Carpenter.

Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Bill Divelbiss will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-6pm on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.
