PHYLLIS LOUISE CARPENTER, 75, of Village Mill Drive, Maugansville, Md., died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at her home. Born January 31, 1936 in Mt. Lena, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Preston Monninger and Helen Monninger Divel. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George W. Carpenter, Sr.; a son, George W. Carpenter, Jr. and wife Dawn, of Clear Spring, Md.; a grandson, Stephen R. Mayes of Hagerstown; two step grandchildren, Josh Lowman of Silver Spring, Md. and Amanda Crawford of Williamsport, Md.; a great granddaughter, Myah Crawford of Williamsport, Md.; five step-brothers, a step-sister and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Marshall Divel, two brothers, Leroy Monninger and Jacob Monninger a sister, Della Schuler and numerous aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.
