Obituary

Petrie Tibbs, a vibrant spirit and a beacon of laughter, took her final bow on February 26, 2025, after 53 years of scripting a life that could rival any comedy classic. This computer whiz with the infectious chuckle came into the world on a sunny October 30th, 1971, in Gloucester, United Kingdom. Little did the quaint English town know, they had birthed a future Hagerstown MD legend, who'd never fail to leave you smiling or offer a willing ear to listen to your troubles.

Petrie wasn't one to shy away from the spotlight, especially if that spotlight involved her darling commanders – her cherished grandchildren. While some folks collect stamps or coins, Petrie amassed a treasure trove of snickers and chuckles at every one of their sports games, her infectious laughter turning more heads than the scoreboards.

She will be lovingly etched in the memories of her family, including her children Tunisia, the double act of Ashlee and her spouse Daniel, the dynamic duo of Jada and her spouse Promise, and Thomas along with his partner in crime Jessica, not to mention Anthony who always enjoyed her witty banter. Her co-star and husband, Thomas Tibbs Sr., had already taken the stage exit earlier, and let's not forget her scene-stealer Cameron Sr., who no doubt was waiting in the wings for their joyous reunion.

Petrie's pride and joy were her awards for "Best Supporting Grandparent" to her grandkids Holli, Marley, Kingstyn, Kambrie, Cameron Jr., Aalyrah, Ryleigh, Chance, and Kaleyia, each of whom inherited a piece of her comedic genius.

With a Bachelor's for Computer Technology and Science in hand, she cast herself in the roles of Cable Technician and First Data Tech Support, ensuring that any technical difficulties were met with solutions and a side of good cheer. Her professionalism was always delivered with a punchline, making even the most mundane tech issue seem like an amusing sitcom episode.

Her passions spanned the globe, as travel was her stage, and new destinations were her audience. The world was better for her having trodden its boards, leaving every place a bit warmer with memories etched in laughter.

As a trusted patron of Red's Apple Ale, her charismatic endorsement could turn any skeptic into a believer, while her jester's heart found its rhythm alongside the giggles and trampoline jumps of her grandkids. She delivered punchlines with the skill of a seasoned comic, knowing that life, just like comedy, was all about timing.

Generous to a fault, she'd give you her last rosette apple, and loving like no other, her hugs had the power of healing broken funny bones. As for funny – oh, she owned the title! Petrie could spot the punchline in a eulogy and have the reaper chuckling at his own absurdity.

It was George Burns who quipped, "Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city." But let's be honest, Petrie Tibbs personified happiness and made darn sure her large, loving, caring, close-knit family was right in the thick of it with her.

While we mourn the final curtain call of our beloved Petrie, let's raise a glass of Red's Apple Ale – her favorite – as we celebrate the script she's left behind: a narrative of love, laughter, and the kind of fierce joy that comes from not just participating in the human comedy, but steering the whole zany ship.

As we bid adieu to Petrie, let us remember that the world was her stage, and goodness, did she play every part. Hagerstown may be a little quieter, and computer issues a little less entertaining, but the echoes of her laughter will forever remain a standing ovation in the hearts of those who loved her. Curtain down, Petrie, and what a glorious show it was. One Love!
