PEARL ELIZABETH SHANK, 94, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at the Washington County Hospital. Born July 16, 1912 in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Olive B. Price Ground. She retired from the Washington County Board of Education where she was employed as a secretary at Winter Street and Salem Avenue schools. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church for eighty-two years. She taught Sunday School for thirty-two years; was a member of the Temple Builder's Sunday School Class, and played the piano in the Sunday School orchestra for fifty years. She was a volunteer for twenty-five years at the Coffman Nursing home. She is survived by her husband, Paul Shank; one daughter, Karen E. Helfrich of Hagerstown; one son, Jerry G. Shank of Maugansville, Maryland; one sister, Anne G. Kaylor of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia E. Ground; two half-sisters, Mary Ground, and Ruth Lantz; and three half-brothers, Ray Ground, Edward Ground, and Joseph Ground. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard.. Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p. m.
