Obituary

Patricia Ann (Myers) Johnston, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023. She was the loving wife of David William Johnston, whom she married September 26, 1987. Born March 24, 1958, Patty was the daughter of Charles Rodman Myers of Thurmont, MD and the late Madeline Jean (Ogle) Myers, who passed away, June 30, 2014.

In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by her sister, Cheryl Lenhart, and husband, Robert, of Thurmont; brother, Robert Myers, and wife, Karen, of Thurmont; and sister, Andrea Mannix, of New Paltz, NY. She was the loving aunt of Stephanie and Davey Ott, Matthew Lenhart, Daniel and Abbey Myers, Kristen Myers, Eric Myers, Kevin and Shannon Mannix, and Denise Mannix; the great aunt to Madison and Owen Ott and Chase Rodman Myers; godmother of Kristen Myers, Garrett Johnston and James F. Kershner; brother-in-law, Timothy Johnston; and many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Patty graduated from Catoctin High School in 1976 and enjoyed helping at class reunions with her friends and classmates. After graduation, she attended South Florida School of Floral Design. Patty worked at Sharpe's Flowers and Flower Fashions of Frederick, MD. She was currently employed at Direct Mail Processors in Hagerstown, MD. Patty had a strong work ethic which she learned working on the family farm, Catoctin Mt. View Farm. This farm was inducted into the Maryland Agriculture Hall of Fame.

Patty was a member of Thurmont Grange #409, where she served as secretary and Maryland State Grange Princess. She also served as Flora of State Grange. Patty is a life member of the National FFA and Catoctin FFA Alumni and Supporters. She served as Maryland FFA Alumni Secretary and Treasurer. Patty received her National American Farmer Degree and was selected as Catoctin FFA Chapter Sweetheart during the Thurmont and Emmittsburg Community Show. She is a member of the Thurmont and Emmittsburg Committee, serving as Historian. She did many behind the scenes work to help make the show a success. Patty is a life member of the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company where she served as LOSAP Coordinator Secretary, Bar-B-Que Committee Chairman and Historian of the Auxiliary. She helped with many fund raisers and was a faithful Bingo helper. Patty attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Funkstown, MD, where she helped with decorating and Vacation Bible School.

Patty was known for her beautiful blue eyes, pleasant smile, kindness and was always willing to help others. She enjoyed making food for family and friends, and was known for her No Bake and Snickerdoodle cookies. Many of her recipes could be found in Grange or Church Cookbooks.

Patty loved to go shopping and could usually find a new purse. She loved music and flowers and playing the slots at Charles Town. Patty enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach and was proud to be a member of the Maryland Terrapin Club and a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.

Funeral services will be 11am Thursday, May 11, 2023, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 24 E. Baltimore St., Funkstown, MD. Pastor Lee Brumback will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD and from 10-11am on Thursday at the church.
