Obituary

Nancy "Nan" Rachlin, 70, passed from this life on September 6, 2024, at her home in Hagerstown, MD.

Born July 24, 1954, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of Richard Bernard Haberkorn III and Virginia "Ginny" Catherine (Phillips) Haberkorn Cook.

Nan attended North Hagerstown High School, The Grier School, and earned a bachelor's degree (BA) in Fine Arts/Dance at Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA, and a Master's Degree in Dance (MFA) at Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL.

Her first career was dance, where she performed with several repertory companies and taught dance at FSU and other colleges. She later held a career in corporate business systems administration and quality management in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Hagerstown at Sierra Nevada Corporation.

Nan enjoyed volunteering at the Washington County Humane Society, cooking, painting, and flower gardening.

She is survived by two brothers, Eric P. Haberkorn and Richard B. Haberkorn; her niece, Carley Hewitt; her great-nephew, Eric Hewitt; and dear friends, Dana and Mark Matthews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard Bernard Haberkorn, Jr., Hilda Margaret (Kuhlman) Haberkorn, Joseph P. Phillips, and Emma Frances (Burney) Phillips; her former husband, Michael Luis Rachlin; and infant son, Evan James Rachlin.

There will be no services.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Rd, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
