Nancy Lorraine
Green
Jul 22, 1951 — Mar 30, 2026
Pastor Nancy Lorraine "Nan" Green, a creative, faith-filled, and loving servant of Christ, was born on July 22, 1951, in Hagerstown, Maryland, and entered eternal rest on March 30, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Hagerstown after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Nancy was the daughter of Robert Foltz and Vivian (Custer) Foltz. She was known by many simply as Nan, a name that reflected the warmth, kindness, and familiarity she extended to friends, church members, students, and loved ones alike. Her life was marked by a steady devotion to God and a quiet strength that inspired those around her.
Nancy graduated from South High in 1969 and continued her education at Towson, where she graduated in 1973. She later attended Wesley Theological Seminary, preparing herself for a life of ministry and service. Her calling was evident in the way she lived, taught, and ministered. She believed deeply in the love of Christ and sought to reflect that love through her words, her actions, and her care for others. Her Christian faith was not simply a part of her life. It was the foundation upon which she built her days.
For twelve years, Nancy served as an elementary art teacher in Washington County before retiring from that work. She found joy in helping children discover their creativity and express themselves through art. Her classroom was a place where encouragement and imagination flourished, and she left a lasting impression on many young lives. She also answered a deeper call to ministry and served faithfully as pastor at Pleasant Walk UMC for twenty years before retiring. She then served as pastor at Boonsboro Christian Church and as assistant pastor at Grace Christian Church. In each place of service, she was a shepherd, a teacher, and a source of comfort and wisdom to her congregation.
Nancy's ministry extended beyond the local church. She served as a board member and retreat director for Quality of Life Retreats for people with HIV/AIDS, offering compassion, dignity, and hope to those in need. Her heart for this work reflected the mercy of Christ, and she approached it with grace and respect. She understood the importance of meeting people where they were and reminding them that they were seen, valued, and loved by God. Her service in this area touched lives in profound ways and demonstrated her commitment to living out her faith with action.
In addition to her ministry and teaching, Nancy enjoyed art and crafts, pursuits that reflected her creative spirit. She found beauty in making things by hand and in sharing that creativity with others. Her talents were a gift, and she used them to bring joy, meaning, and expression into the world around her.
Those who knew her will remember not only what she did, but also the gentle and loving way she did it.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Steve Green; her son, Phillip, and his wife, Karla; their daughters, Karen and Hannah; her son, Robert, and his partner, Rose Boone; her sister, Linda Foltz; and her brother, Bob Foltz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vivian Foltz. Her family was a treasured part of her life, and she loved them deeply. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and kindness that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A life rooted in Christian faith and guided by compassion, Nancy Green's journey on earth was a testimony to the goodness of God. She served with humility, loved with sincerity, and lived with purpose. Though she will be deeply missed, her loved ones take comfort in the promise of eternal life and in the assurance that she now rests in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her memory will remain a blessing, and her example will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her.
