MERLE RICHARD VAUGHN, Jr., 56, of Maugansville, Md., died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at City Hospital in Martinsburg, West Va. Born September 24, 1955 in Hagerstown, he was the son of Delores (Pete) Myers and the late Merle Richard Vaughn, Sr. He was employed with Craig Paving. He loved NASCAR, riding motorcycles , the Colts and Saturday night bowling. He was president of the Saturday Night Mixed Bowling League Dual Lanes. He is survived by his wife, Nina Vaughn; a daughter, Melissha Beth Vaughn of Hagerstown and her fiance, Ryan (Tater) Russ; a son, Merle Richard Vaughn, III of Hagerstown; step-daughter, Lacey Jay Shanholtz of Hagerstown; step-son, Lawrence Berkeley Shanholtz, Sr. of Hagerstown and his fiance Bobbie Miller, whom he loved as his own; 4 sisters, Linda Gossard and Donna Vaughn, both of Hagerstown, Tina Ecton and husband Billy of Mercersburg, Pa., and Sherry Obitts of Hagerstown; 3 brothers, Donnie Vaugh and wife Kathy of Hagerstown, Richard Obitts and wife Teresa of Boonsboro, Md. and Terry Obitts and wife Melissa of Hagerstown; brother-in-law, Robert Sisk of Hagerstown; aunt and uncle, Donald and Sue Socks; 9 grandchildren, Sierra Vaughn, Alexcia Russ, Taylor Vaughn, Aaliyah Russ, Amiya Russ, Kaleb Shanholtz, Lawrence Shanholtz, Jr., Avionna Blake, Darryl Blake, Jr. and another grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Vaughn, Sr., maternal grandparents, Edgar and Bessie Socks and a sister, Lisa Sisk. Funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Ronald K. Faith will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the gravesite by Washington County AMVETS Post #10 and Marine Corp. League of Hagerstown.
