Obituary

Our Brother, and friend to many, Merle Ross Reeder, slipped the bonds of this earthly home on March 29, 2021 at Franklin Square Medical Center in Rossville, Maryland. Born on April 23, 1953, he was the son of the late Elmer Carroll and Irene Meredith Reeder, a union that flowered in Melbourne, Australia in the waning days of World War Two. Merle was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, class of 1971. His unwavering work ethic was cemented as a youngster, delivering newspapers, shoveling snow and doing odd jobs at Hershey's Ice Cream. Later he worked as a mechanic and in industrial maintenance at Tuscarora Plastics, Reed Industries and Citicorp. In recent years, he was a materials handler with The Herald Mail Company. Merle had a boundless love for his family and friends. Universally loved, he gave of himself without measure. His heart, his smile and his endless energy is imprinted upon each of those he touched. He was Christian by faith and formerly attended the Virginia Avenue Church of God. He was preceded in death by Shirley, his beloved wife of 35 years, his father, mother and infant brother, David Carrol He is survived by brothers Dennis (Cheryl), Harold (Terri) and Richard Reeder, two sisters, Barbara (Dwight) Wingert and Vickie (Gary) Royce, Shirley's sisters Doris Baker, Linda (Hank) Williams and Paula Morris, Shirley's children Carolyn (Greg) Aleshire, John "Les" Kroboth, Teresa (Jim) Bishop, Pam (George) Line and Greg (Dianna) Kroboth. He is also survived by 47 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special expression is given to Scott Ashworth. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the Virginia Avenue Church of God, 17306 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, MD, Pastor Shawn Bushman presiding. Family will receive friends and guests one hour (10 AM) prior to the service. Please note that current protocols require face masks and distancing. Interment at Cedar Lawn Cemetery will be at the family's convenience. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
