Obituary

Melvin Henry Shank peacefully departed this life surrounded by family on March 17, 2012. Born August 16, 1923 in Mason Dixon, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey K. Shank and Rose L. Dennis Shank. He attended South Potomac School in Hagerstown. He retired from the Coca Cola Company in 1988 after 33 years of service. Melvin was a member of the St. James Brethren Church since 1947. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed gardening in his free time. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Charlotte Louise Shank. They were married April 6, 1947. He is survived by sisters, Dorothy Moore of Hancock, Md., and Helen Butler of Amherst, Oh; son, Jeffrey L. Shank, and wife, Sondra, of Boonsboro, Md.; daughters, Deborah S. Hartman, and husband, David, of Walkersville, Md., and Margaret A. Shank, and partner, Joanne DiGregorio, of Olney, Md.; grandson, Michael S. Shank, and wife, Kristi, of Downsville, Md.; granddaughters, Deena L. Kirchner, and fianc, Jason Caniford, of Williamsport, Md., Ashley E. DeVine and husband, Travers, of Frederick, Md., and Natalie R. Hartman of Walkersville, Md; and great-granddaughters Carli and Jenna Shank, and Sydney and Peyton Kirchner. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Martin, Martha Durbin, and Anna Line; and brothers, Harvey K. Shank and Reverend Glen "Doc" H. Shank. Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 20, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, MD 21740, from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home. A very special thank you to Hospice of Washington County, especially to Brenda, Tina, Pastor Eric, and Sandy, for their wonderful care and support. And thank you to services provided by Tender Loving Home Care and Meritus Care At Home.
