MELVIN EUGENE ROSE, 77, of Hagerstown MD, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at his home. Born March 11, 1936, in Washington County, MD, he was the son of the late Viola Cosey Stockslager and step-father Albert (Bob) Stockslager. Melvin was employed with Western Maryland Railroad for 8 years, then retired in 1991 from Mack Truck after 29 years. He attended the Evangel Baptist Church. Melvin was a life member of Greencastle Sportsmen's Association, life member of Mercersburg Sportsmen's Association, life member of Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club, member of Potomac Bass Anglers, Conococheague Archers Association, National Rifle Association, Funkstown American Legion 211, and UAW local 171. Melvin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed shooting archery with the old timers at Greencastle Sportsman's Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Derek Beasley and Travis Barnhart; and one step-grandson, R.C. Myers. Melvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Rose; two daughters, Cindy J. Myers and husband Ron of PA, and Nadine Barnhart and husband Tim of Clear Spring, MD; two sons, Rodney Rose and wife Julie of Greencastle, PA, and Randy Rose and wife Cheryl of Mercersburg, PA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and his dog and best friend, Mosby. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 11am, at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St, Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Ron K. Faith will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday, January 27, from 6 to 8pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD.
