Melvia Joanne "Cookie" Miller died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Haven House Assisted Living in Denton, MD. She was born January 9, 1942 in Breathedsville, MD, to the late Millard Raymond and Mabel Evelyn (Myers) Miller. She attended Fairplay School, Kemp Horn, Washington County Association of Retarded Citizens Day Care, Chesapeake Day Care Center in Easton, and was a member of the Manor Church of the Brethren, Tilghmanton and the Next Generation of Denton congregations. For the last seven years she resided at Haven House Assisted Living facility under the care of Leslie Ruhl. Cookie was a kind and loving person who always had a smile and was sure to remember children's birthdays and other special events. She is survived by two brothers, Gerald E. Miller of Hagerstown, and Millard H. Miller and wife, Linda, of Fairplay; two sisters, Penelope S. Bartles and husband, Ralph, of Hagerstown, and Patricia L. Shoemaker and husband, Terry, of Gettysburg, PA; nieces and nephews, Craig L. Barnhart, Kathleen E. Barnhart, Sandy L. Duffey, Chris N. Barnhart, Michelle L. Chaney, Kimberly S. Gossard, Eric L. Barnhart, Raymond J. Miller, Sonja L. Hoover, Jeremy C. Shoemaker and Jennifer I Ort; 20 grand nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; and her uncle, Clifford H. Myers and wife Mary of Hagerstown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy A. Barnhart; sister-in-law, Katherine l. Miller; and two nephews, Curtis A. Barnhart and Quinn A. Hoover. Services will be held 11 am, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Manor Church of the Brethren, 18511 Manor Church Road, Boonsboro, MD. Pastor Joy E. Zepp will officiate. Burial will be at Manor Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6 to 8pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.
