Melissa Sue Doyle, 62, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away at Doey's House on July 2, 2021, following four months of declining health. Born in Hagerstown on June 28, 1959, she was the only child of Raymond Doyle and Nancy Sprecher. She was preceded in death by her mother and her stepfather, Herbert Sprecher. She had an outgoing personality and made friends easily. She enjoyed time spent with her closest friends and their children. She enjoyed traveling, Broadway musicals, movies about the Mafia and was an avid reader. She was a loyal fan of The Walton's tv show as it reminded her of growing up in her beloved Sharpsburg. Melissa was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School and Western Maryland College. She obtained her Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and was a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical. Her career included being a paralegal for several local law firms, an instructor for the legal program at Hagerstown Business College, and as an adjunct professor for Salisbury University's social work program. Her legacy was as a thirty-year employee of the Washington County Department of Social Services as a child protective service investigator, Family Involvement Meeting facilitator, and protective services supervisor. She was passionate about her work to protect children while empowering families. She officially retired July 1, 2021. A celebration of life will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown on Monday, July 12 at 5pm. Those attending will have an opportunity to share a memory of Melissa. Burial will be private.
