My beloved mother, Mary Katherine Swope, 97, passed on from this earth to meet with her loved ones in the arms of her Savior on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Meritus Medical Center. Born Friday. August 5, 1927, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Daniel and Nora Heiser Thompson. Mary resided in Hagerstown where she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mary had the gift of being a kind and compassionate person who could be depended on for providing sound wisdom and advisement for anyone who confided in her. She was a former member of Maranatha Brethren Church. She was a successful business owner along with her husband of 68 years, Paul. She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul James Swope, on August 31, 2011; daughter, Shirley Ann Hoover; and siblings, Daniel Jr., Frank, Robert, and Helen Thompson, and Evelyn Marks.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Nancy Jean Eichelberger (Mark); three grandchildren, Danny Grove (Kristy), Brian Eichelberger (Carrie), and Paula Kretzer (Dave); four great grandchildren, Brittani Kretzer, Bradley Kretzer (Jasmine), Madeleine Eichelberger, and Adam Grove; two great great-grandchildren, Rose and Nora Kretzer; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to her nephews, Timothy Thompson and David Thompson, for the help they provided to Mary over the years.
