Obituary

Mary Ellen Pryor, 86, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023. She was born on May 16, 1936 to the late Edgar Rachor and Kathryn Sensenbaugh Rachor.

Mary Ellen was a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She married her late husband, William S. Pryor in 1955. From 1963 to 1981 Mary Ellen worked at the Park Circle Restaurant until she owned and ran her own business, The Shortstop Tavern from 1981 to 2006. She was a past President of the Washington County Restaurant and Beverage Association. Additionally, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Funkstown Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211, and a member and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary at the AmVets Post 10 in Hagerstown where she served as a chaplain and was very involved in organizing and running many of the Post's functions. Mary Ellen was past President of the Little Women and Southside Birds duckpin leagues and was secretary and treasurer for the Washington County Independent Pool League for many years. Mary Ellen was known to family, friends, and customers as an avid sports fan – especially the Orioles, Redskins, and Ravens. She was a lover of all living things and each spring cultivated a beautiful flower garden at her country home in Funkstown and later in her courtyard in the city.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Pryor in 2000, her son, Matthew Pryor in 1980, her daughter, "Susie" Mary Susan Montag in 2019, and her great-granddaughter, Joelle Pryor.

Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Michael Pryor and his wife, Glenna, her grandchildren, Jeremy Pryor, Sheri Pryor, Steven Montag, and Anna Montag, her great-grandchildren, Ariel Pryor and Willow Pryor, her sister, Linda Everhart, her brother, Ed "Eddie" Rachor and his wife, Beverly, her dear companion, John "Mike" Hart, a special niece and caregiver, Debbie Umbrell, many nieces and nephews, and her good friends, Judy Johnson and Dinnie Winger.

Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Monday, May 1, 2023 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 11:00am at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 South Potomac Street in Hagerstown.
