Obituary

Mary Catherine "Kitty" Smith, 97, of Williamsport, MD, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.  Mary was born on November 8, 1925 in Big Pool, MD, at Lockhouse #5. She was the daughter of Robert L. Small and Ethel M. Parlett-Myers, and raised by her grandparents, Capt. Frank Myers and Minnie Mae.

In her young career, Mary worked at Fairchild in Hagerstown, MD, then briefly at Montgomery Ward, Pryors, and Quality Court in Hagerstown, MD and Days Inn in Williamsport, MD. Although she enjoyed working, Mary's most favorite job was being a wife and mother; she devoted her entire life to her husband, John, and three boys, Michael, Robby, and David.

Mary lived a simple life spending time baking, sewing, gardening and raising her sons. In addition, she cared deeply for her two granddaughters, Lindsey and Morgan, instilling many family values and traditions that will now live on. She was also an avid Special Olympic supporter with their youngest son, David.  She was a lifelong member of both Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown and Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

She is survived by her sister, Betty L. Coyle and long-time companion Kenneth C. Howard Sr.; her three sons, Michael W. Smith and wife, Sofia L. Villa-Smith, John "Rob" Smith and wife, Joy M. Smith, and David W. Smith; two granddaughters, Lindsey M. Smith, and Morgan E. Mitchell and husband Dustin A. Mitchell; and three great-granddaughters, Marley M. Mitchell, Skylar E. Mitchell, and Remedy L. Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jack L. Myers, Robert S. Myers, and Kenneth L. Parlett; sister, Beverly A. Shanholtz; and loving husband of 75 years, Capt. John C. Smith.

The funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Robert "Bobby" Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
