Obituary

Marvin Lee "Skeets" Niswander, age 76, of Hagerstown, died Monday, February 5, 2024 at Doey's House.

Born July 16, 1947 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Franklin Niswander, Sr. and Margaret Louella (Woodcock) Niswander.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen "Kathie" (Trumpower) Niswander. They were married on May 2, 1987.

He was a 1966 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. He worked at Two Guys for several years, and then for the Washington County Board of Education for many years as a Custodian, his last employment being at the Career Studies Center.

He was a faithful member of Hilltop Christian Fellowship from its beginning in January 2004 until months before his death. He played the harmonica with the Hilltop Gospel Boys.

He was a charter member (1983) of the Hagerstown Fire Police Unit, having served in all the officer positions of the unit. Then the Fire Police Unit evolved into the Hagerstown Police Auxiliary; he was a charter member of that unit. He was given the honor of Captain Emeritus. He was Chief Warrant Officer for the Civil Air Patrol for several years. He was (until his illnesses) an active member of Engine 5, was vice-president for several years, served as Acting President for several months, and was on the Board of Directors for two years. He was with the Fire Department for 50 years. He was an associate member and night watchman for many years for Engine 2. He was an associate member for Truck 1 for many years. In 2008, he joined the Washington County Fire and Rescue Association's Rehab Unit 255 and Air Unit 25.

He is survived by one brother, William "Bill" Niswander, and his wife, Betsy, of Hagerstown; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by one brother, John Niswander, Jr.; three sisters, Margaret Niswander (his twin) at age three, Dorothy Hose, and Patricia Faulders (Dick).

A viewing and memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024. The viewing will be from 11am-12pm, with the memorial service to begin at 12pm. Pastors John and Melissa Miller will officiate at the service at Hilltop Christian Fellowship, 12624 Trinity Church Drive, Clear Spring, MD.

Burial will be at Park Head United Methodist Church Cemetery near Pectonville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington County Cancer Society, 12916 Conamar Drive #201, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
