Obituary

Marjorie Seiler, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, with her daughters at her side.

Born April 22, 1924, in Big Bay, Michigan, Marjorie was the daughter of the late George and Emily (Backus) Cram. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Seiler, and their son, Douglas. She would have celebrated her 101st birthday on April 22.

Marjorie grew up in Redford Township, a suburb of Detroit, and graduated from Redford High School in 1942. After graduation, she worked as a typist for the Burroughs Corporation. In 1943, she married Charles, the boy next door, who had taken her to her senior prom. When he was drafted for service in WWII and joined the U.S. Marine Corps, Marjorie traveled to Goleta, California, to be near him. She worked in a dry-cleaning store until he was shipped overseas to serve in the Occupational Forces in Japan.

They were married for 54 years and had three children, Sharon (Roy), Douglas, and Carol (Stotlemyer). While the family lived in Livonia, Michigan, Marjorie worked for the Awrey Bakery Company. She was an active member of Memorial Church of Christ, serving as a Sunday School teacher, and helping with Vacation Bible School.

She was an excellent homemaker and an expert seamstress. She made fashionable clothes for her daughters and loved the challenge of creating costumes for her children and her granddaughter Brandi. She was involved in scouting for all her children, serving as assistant troop leader in Girl Scouts and Brownies and den mother in the Cub Scouts. Brandi and her "Mimi" spent a lot of time doing fun activities and going on great adventures together.

The family moved to Hagerstown, Maryland, in 1962, where Charles worked as a lathe operator at Mack Trucks. In the mid 80's Marjorie's mother came to live with them in Hagerstown in a studio apartment added to their home on the Sharpsburg Pike. After Charles died on his birthday in 1997, Marjorie became the head of the household, taking care of her mother who lived to be 103. In 2000 she moved to her current home where she was able to stay thanks to the loving care of her daughter Carol. She was a faithful member of the Hagerstown Church of Christ where she taught Bible school and for many years edited and formatted the weekly bulletin, mailing copies to members who were homebound or had moved away. She enjoyed reading mysteries, rooting for the Baltimore Orioles, playing Scrabble and visiting with friends and family. She was a joy to everyone who knew her.

Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Sharon and Carol; son-in-law, Jim Stotlemyer, daughter-in-law, Caroyln Seiler; five grandchildren: James Roy, Cynthia Barnett, David Seiler, John Seiler, and Brandi Baker; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Her family is grateful for the care and support of Hospice of Washington County and the Right at Home Care Agency.

A funeral will be held at the Hagerstown Church of Christ, 19644 Leitersburg Pike, at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 17, with time to greet family at 10:00 am. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
