Obituary

Marie Antoinette Souders, 80, passed away on Saturday September 29, 2018. Marie was born on August 1, 1938 in Carlisle. She was the daughter of the late, Cleon Austin and Marie (Weary) Beittel. Marie was employed as a Secretary with the Washington County Board of Education for 30 years, retiring in 2000. She was a 1956 graduate of Boonsboro High School. Marie was a member of the Washington County Schools Retiree Association and the Funkstown American Legion Womens Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons, Jeff L. Souders, and wife Marianne, of Manchester, MD and John L. Souders, and wife Angela, of Boonsboro, MD; two sisters, Lois Hoch, of Carlisle, PA and twin sister, Viva French, of Hagerstown, MD; two grandsons; five granddaughters; eight great grandchildren and a half-brother, Michael Beittel, of Mt. Lena, MD. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Cleon Beittel. She was a 1956 graduate of Boonsboro. Marie was best friend and wife to Joseph Junior Souders for 53 years. Their remarkable relationship was one of envy to all of their family and friends. She was his biggest fan when he played guitars at various venues and friends houses. Joe passed away on December 10, 2011. She was very loved by her cat Lucky that chose Marie as her person. Marie loved a good session of Judge Judy, or an intense match of Wheel of Fortune. She loved to play cards with her sister, Tiny and was a fierce Yahtzee competitor. She was famous for her iced tea that was always available in large quantity. Her holiday dinners were incredible. Despite the exhausting effort it took as she got older, she thrived having her family around her and insisted on preparing yet another years fantastic meal. For well over 2 decades, Marie hosted a pizza party with her family every week. Family was very important to her. Her family adored her, and she adored them. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Washington County Humane Society in Hagerstown MD (http://hswcmd.org/donate). The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. A graveside service will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at 11 am Wednesday, October 4, 2018. Rev. Robert Robinson will officiate.
