Obituary

Marian Elizabeth "Betty" Beair, 86, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 to be with her best friend and husband, John, and together they will be with their Lord. Born in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Robert E. Powles, Sr. and Susan T. Powles. She had two brothers who preceded her in death, Robert E. Powles, Jr. and Charles J. Powles. Betty always felt right at home when she was with her husbands parents and his sisters, who were like the sisters she never had. Betty graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1949. School was different then and everyone was friends. She really enjoyed attending her class reunions. After marrying John, she changed her membership from John Wesley Methodist Church to Grace United Methodist Church. They participated in many activities and enjoyed being with the members of the church. Betty and John joined Mary Smiths Dance Club, where they enjoyed dancing and the many cruises and other trips hosted by Mary. They also went on many trips with the West End Seniors and many wonderful trips to Johns Army Reunions. Their best friends, Dave and Sue Dorsey, attended the reunions with them, and they looked forward to the extended trips after the reunions. Their favorite place to vacation was Ocean City, NJ. Betty and John had 61 years together. Betty also loved bowling, playing Mah Jongg and shopping with Jane Priest, Kate Myers and her daughters. Betty wanted to thank God for giving them three wonderful children; their daughter, Jule Martin and her husband, Dean; their son, John and his wife, Barbara; and their daughter, Cynthia. She said they were her strength. She dearly loved her four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There will be no viewing. Rev. Virgil Cain will officiate the private graveside service. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Doeys House, Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742. Arrangements made by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.
