MARGARET CATHERINE (KATE) STALEY, 94, of Belview Avenue, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center after a short illness. Born March 8, 1917, in Williamsport, Md., she was the daughter of the late Henry Lansing and Goldie Ann (Stride) Preston. Kate did volunteer work for the Federal Little League. She worked with ARC bowling teams and other organizations. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. She was an excellent cook, liked gardening and flowers, loved babies, faithfully watched the Baltimore Orioles, and took pleasure in visits from her children and grandchildren. She bowled on the women�s Hits and Misses team at Longmeadow Bowl for many years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Kate was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 72 years, Wolford (Buck) Staley, whom she married on February 22, 1939; one daughter, Thelma Jean Stockslager; four sons, William H. Staley and wife, Jane, Stephen L. Staley and wife, Deborah, Robert L. Staley, all of Hagerstown, Md. and John R. Staley and wife Terri of Warfordsburg, Pa.; three daughter-in-laws, Jo Staley and Beverly Staley of Hagerstown, Md., and Arlene Staley of Reisterstown, Md.; twelve grandchildren, Herman Elden Stockslager, II, Diana Mayhue, Margaret Stockslager, Ryan Staley, James and Steven Staley, Tressy Simmons, Kane Seth and Dean Staley, Taren Kling and Leah Staley; eleven great grandchildren, Bethany Stockslager, Lisa DeShong, Philip Mayhue, Jarred and Ryan Picarelli, Alisha Stockslager, Emily, Sara and Matthew Staley, Charlotte Staley, Ryder Kling and several nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Ann; one brother, Isaac N. Preston, two sons, Harry W. Staley and David T. Staley; one son-in-law, Herman Elden Stockslager, and one granddaughter, Kara L. Staley. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, 712 West Church Street, Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.
