Obituary

LOYD BERNARD MEIER of Hagerstown, Maryland died February 3, 2009 at his home. Born May 13, 1927 in Coleridge, Nebraska, Loyd was the son of Richard Wellington and Minna (Steffen) Meier. He farmed the family farm until drafted during World War II, serving three years in the regular Army and three years in the 87th Engineers. Loyd was a plumber in Virginia, Martinsburg, West Virginia and Hagerstown for thirty years. He was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown where he joyfully planted flower beds and cut the lawn. He was a member of the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42 and the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Constance V. Meier; brothers, James and Richard Meier; and sister Ida Searl. Loyd is survived by his wife of twenty years, Jene Lee Meier; brother Merlin and wife Shirley Meier; sister Wilhelmina and husband Lavern Provancha; sons, David and wife Karen Meier, Clinton and wife Kathy Meier, Charles and wife Marsha Meier; daughter Karen and husband Michael Delisle; stepchildren Linda and husband Bruce Field, Patricia Weneck, Leo and wife Ann Komorowski, Elizabeth and husband David Beachley, John and wife Shelly Komorowski, Dorothy and husband Daniel Jones, and Barbara and husband Gerald Amerine. There are eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren in his extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Jerry Lowans will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p. m. in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the veterans combined honor guard from Martinsburg. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p. m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington Square United Methodist Church, 538 Washington Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740, or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742.
