Obituary

LORRAINE EDITH WOLFORD, 84, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Ravenwood Lutheran Village. Born September 25, 1930, in Smithsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Floyd A. and Florence E. Lowman Gearhart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Lee Wolford in November 30, 1999. Lorraine retired from Western Maryland Hospital Center in 1978 where she worked as an LPN. She enjoyed growing roses and African violets and playing the piano. She was a loving mother and grandmother and nothing made her happier than to have her family around her. Nobody could bake a better apple pie. When her health was good, Lorraine was very active in the congregation of St. Paul's Lutheran church, singing in the chancel choir and as treasurer of the adult Sunday school. In later years, when her mobility became a challenge, she remained devoted to her God and called upon him for strength to weather the years ahead. She is survived by two daughters, Christine Moats and Marlina Wolford both of Hagerstown; one son, John M. Wolford and wife, Diane of Smithsburg, MD; one step-daughter, Barbara Jean O'Connor of St. Line, PA; three sisters, Louella Kline of Hagerstown, Betty Marquiss of Melbourne, FL and Phyllis Rice of Hagerstown; ten grandchildren, Amy, Abby, Emily, David, Amanda, Tyler, Rachel, Andrew, Laura and Adrienne; two great grandchildren, Natalie and Evie; and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Wolford. She was preceded in death by one son, David E. Wolford; one sister, Rachel Respo; two brothers, Floyd Gearhart and Lloyd Gearhart. Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 24 E. Baltimore St., Funkstown, MD. The Rev.'s Ron Reaves and Darrel Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church chancel choir, P.O. Box 148, Funkstown, MD 21734.
