LOIS G. BARNES, 91, of Hagerstown, MD. Formerly Lois May (Wetherald) George, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018. She was born to Lewis Haviland and Vivian May (Johnson) Wetherald of Bryantown, MD., on June 7, 1927. Lois retired from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD and became an active supporter of non-partisan, volunteer-led organizations. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alva "Al" Barnes and the late Thomas E. "Tommy" George; brothers, Edward Wetherald, and Phillip Wetherald. Lois is survived by her sister, Doris Wetherald Rawlings of Bryantown, MD; daughters, Linda Lois (George) Woltz of Frederick, MD and Patricia Ann "Patti" George of Columbia, MD. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, and neighbors of the greater Hagerstown community. Services will be held 10AM Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Lee Brumback will officiate. Burial will be held 1PM at the George Washington Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Rd., Adelphi, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.
