Linn Seldon
Davison Sr.
Dec 7, 1936 — Feb 23, 2024
Linn Seldon Davison Sr. passed away in Hagerstown, Maryland on February 23, 2024. He was 87 years old. Linn was born on December 7, 1936, in Hagerstown. Linn is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Nettie Davison who passed away in 1986, and his father, Linn Watson Davison who passed away on December 7th, 1940 when Linn was 4 years old. Linn himself was a devoted father having raised 4 children: Linn Davison Jr. (Sunny) of Hagerstown, MD; Susan Hampton (Bruce) of Williamsport, MD; James Davison (Sneha) of Blacksburg, VA; and John Davison (Elizabeth) of Johnson City, TN. Linn is survived by all 4 children, 11 grandchildren and his sister Penny, also of Hagerstown.
He graduated from Hagerstown High School with the class of 1954. An avid musician, Linn played the saxophone and clarinet. Following High School, he joined the Marine Corp and graduated from boot camp in Paris Island in 1955. Linn spent time in South Korea and Okinawa Japan before returning to Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune in Florida. Following completion of his duties in the Marine Corp, Linn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Shepherd College in 1962. Following college, he worked in the steel industry as a resident chemist, analyzing substances to determine their composition and element concentration for quality steelmaking. For the next 40 years he worked at the Veterans Administration in Martinsburg, WV. He started as a chemist and retired as the leader of Quality Assurance in 2000.
Throughout his life, Linn remained proud of his service in the Marine Corp. He was proud to share experiences with veterans at the VA during his career there. In his spare time he enjoyed dinners and events at the Funkstown Legion Dixon-Troxell Post 211. Each year, he would loyally celebrate the Marine Corp birthday, November 10. He credited much of his success and fulfillment in his life, in music, in chemistry, and in his career to his experiences in the Marine Corp.
Linn was an enthusiastic University of Maryland basketball fan. He loved to fish and shoot guns. In his retirement, he spent significant energy volunteering with the Red Cross and with Rockland Woods Elementary. After all his experiences in the first 70 years of his life, upon reflection, would comment volunteering at the local elementary school gave him significant fulfilment, and wondered what those kids would become. The family wonders, how many of them he inspired to join the Marines.
The children would like to recognize Linn's partner, Clarissa Dick, also of Hagerstown. "Chrissy" has been a dedicated, loving partner to Linn for many years. She is a steady, high-energy, best cook on the planet, woman-of-faith and is accepted as an inseparable part of our family.
Linn's wishes are for a graveside service, which will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, the Marine Corps League Foundation, Washington County Public Schools, or St Marks Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro Maryland 21713.
