Linda Rebecca Hovis, 82, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Williamsport Retirement Village. Born July 25, 1939, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Franklin L. and Alice Belle (Hayes) Royston. Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ralph Michael Hovis, on July 2, 2014. She was employed as a teacher with Washington County Public Schools for 40 years and at St. Mary Catholic School for two years. From 1971 to 2018, she volunteered at Washington County Hospital auxiliary and Meritus auxiliary, serving as president two times. She also was a member of the Washington County Teachers Association and had served as secretary. She is survived by her daughter, Marianne Morningstar and husband, Ted Morningstar Jr., of Hagerstown; her stepson, Michael Hovis of Ft. Lauderdale; and five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Newlin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Allen Robinson will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
