Obituary

Lila Rhea Bonham Presley, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 83.

Lila was born on June 7, 1943, in Jonesville, Virginia, to Hazel Edith Miles Bonham and Houston Allen Bonham. She moved to Maryland with her parents and siblings in 1958. She was a middle child of eight children and was raised alongside her brothers and sisters, creating a lifetime of memories and bonds that remained important to her throughout her life.

On May 20, 1960, Lila married her lifelong spouse, Harold Wayne Presley. Together, they built a life centered around family and remained partners until Harold’s passing in 2018. They were blessed with three children: Ricky Wayne Presley, Angela Sue Presley, and Marlene, who passed away as an infant and was always lovingly remembered and carried in her mother’s heart. Lila was especially close with her daughter, Angela.

Lila cherished her family deeply. She was blessed with two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. She especially loved sharing her name with her granddaughter, Lila, whom she affectionately called “Little Lila.” She also enjoyed talking with her grandson, Brandon, who would remind her of her strength.

For the last two years of her life, Lila was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Angela, and son-in-law, Justin, who welcomed her into their home and provided her with comfort, companionship, and love.

Before experiencing health challenges in recent years, Lila enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, traveling, visiting the casino, and decorating and making improvements to her home. She had a special love for children and was known to happily slip them a $20 whenever she could.

Lila worked for several employers throughout her career before finishing her working years at Lennox in Hagerstown, where she truly enjoyed the friendships she made with her coworkers.

Lila had many things she loved: the color purple, cheesecake, Elvis Presley, and, perhaps most of all, preparing a big Thanksgiving dinner for her family. Her love was often expressed through the food she prepared, the home she cared for, and the generosity she showed to those around her.

Lila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold; her son, Ricky; her infant daughter, Marlene; her parents, Hazel and Houston; her brothers, Paul, Ben, and David; her sisters, Ann and Mary; and a special friend and sister-in-law, Beulah.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Angela Sue (Justin); her grandson, Brandon (Amanda); her granddaughter, Lila (Aaron); her great-granddaughters, Aybree, Rickelle, Kamryn, and Aaliyah; and her great-grandsons, Brayden, AJ and Brycen. She is also survived by her sisters, Jeanna and Bonnie, and sister-in-law, Kathy, nieces and nephews, along with extended family and friends who loved her dearly.

Lila’s life was filled with love, family, laughter, generosity, and countless memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on through the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she loved so dearly.

Rest peacefully, Mom and Grandma. You will forever be loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
