Obituary

Lewis Henry Dellinger, Jr., 91, of Hagerstown, MD passed away, Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Coffman Nursing Home surrounded by family.

Born March 16, 1932, in Washington County, MD, he was the son of the late Lewis Henry

Dellinger, Sr. and Helen (Rowland) Dellinger.

Lewis was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown.

He was employed 37 years with the Washington County Board of Education , retiring in 1992.

He was one of two Washington Co youths awarded the coveted Degree of "American Farmer" for outranking all other MD members of the Future Farmers of America in leadership and farm accomplishments by the National FFA Assoc. He then entered into a partnership with his grandfather Henry W Dellinger, for operation of the family farm near Downsville. In 1948 he was a State Delegate to the National FFA Convention.  He was a member of improved order of the RED MEN Conococheague Tribe #84, Williamsport, MD.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bertha Virginia (Maugans) Dellinger, on December 24, 2006; one sister, Norma J Lowman; (Larry), one brother, Donald R Dellinger, (Patsy) and two nephews, Craig and Scott Harbaugh.

Lewis is survived by three daughters; Vickie L. Dirting, and husband, Douglas Hedgesville, WVa, Cathy L. Bishop, and husband, Dennis,Hagerstown, MD and Susan L. Taylor, and husband, Dwight, Haymarket, VA; one sister, Nelda J Harbaugh and husband, Cecil "Butch"Harbaugh,Austin, Texas, four grandchildren, Jennifer L. Higginbotham, (Eric) Patrick S. Bishop,(Brittany) Erin N. Horman, (Justin) and Jerrod A. Cline, (Megan);12 great grandchildren; niece, Lisa D. Reed and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 1pm Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening 6-8pm. June 13,2023
