Obituary

LESTER LEE BUSSARD, 45, of Sharpsburg, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center. Born August 14, 1970 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Joanne Marie Richardson and the late Martin Dale Bussard. Lester became a Cub Scout in September 1978. He joined Troop 51 in September 1980 where he earned 26 merit badges. He also received the God and Country Award in 1987, and was an Honor Scout. Lester received Eagle Scout on December 13, 1987. He graduated from Boonsboro High School with the class of 1988, and attended Hagerstown Community College for two years. Lester worked at Hadley Farms, Inc. in Smithsburg, MD for 16 years. He enjoyed NASCAR, Baseball, and playing cards and Wii with Co. #1 and Co. #19. He was a member of Sharpsburg EMS and Fire Co. for over 35 years, and has been the Chief of Sharpsburg EMS since 1998. Lester was a member of Washington County Review Board and Washington County Chief Association. He received the 2004 Hero of the Year Award, and the Volunteer First Responder Award almost yearly. He received many other awards, too numerous to mention. Lester was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church of Keedysville, MD. In addition to his mother, he is survived by fianc, Sandy Etzler of Sharpsburg; grandmother, Ruth Richardson of Hagerstown; step-great-grandmother, Geneva Hollenshead of Sharpsburg; four aunts, Eyleen Nichels of Funkstown, Hazel Smith of Sharpsburg, Ethel Clipp of Sharpsburg, and Helen Poffenberger of Hagerstown; three uncles, David Richardson of Maugansville, Clifton Hollenshead of Hagerstown, and Glenn Bussard of Smithsburg; and his Sharpsburg EMS and Fire Company family. In addition to his father, Lester was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles L. Richardson; grandparents, Martin C and Juanita Faith Bussard; great grandfather, Roy Hollenshead; one aunt, Audrey Bussard; and one uncle, Charles E. Richardson. Services will be held 10am, Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Washington County Agricultural Center, 7303 Sharpsburg Pike, Boonsboro, MD. Rev. Eric Moser and Rev. Delancy Catlett will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 8pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sharpsburg EMS Building Fund, PO Box 307, Sharpsburg, MD 21782.
