Leonard "Red" Leroy Maffitt, 80, peacefully went home to be with Jesus on March 25, 2026, at Doey's House, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born on January 2, 1946, in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Leonard Leroy Maffitt and Betty Jane (Appenzellar) Brierley.

Red dedicated 43 years of service as a hospital security guard, where he was known for his reliability and friendly presence. In his free time, he found joy in attending car shows and browsing flea markets. He also loved riding his motorcycle and scooter, embracing the simple pleasures of the open road.

He befriended Hagerstown Christian Church.

Red is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Maffitt; his daughters, Tina Maffitt and Sandy Skene (Steve); and his stepchildren, Edi Swearingen (Varrin) and Kara Miller (Brian). He is also survived by his sisters, Sarah Spessard, Deborah Lawhead (Ted), and Barbara Hurd (Wes); his grandson, Cody Henson; ten step-grandchildren; and his great-grandson, Carter Henson, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Gidget Gallahan; his brother, Gene Appenzellar; his great-grandchild, Madden Henson; and his stepdaughter, Kristi Martinez.

A viewing will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 6:00-8:00pm.

The funeral will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the funeral home. Rev. Brad Nigh will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
