LEONARD EARL LOWRY, 92, OF Hagerstown, MD passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 at his home. Born February 23, 1923 in Williamsport, MD he was the son of the late William I. and Leila E. (Wolfe) Lowry. He was a retired dairy farmer and real-estate developer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Cecelia (Bartles) Lowry. Leonard served two terms as the Washington County Farm Bureau President and almost twenty years on the County Soil Conservation District Board. He was a member of the County Economic Development Commission, County Board of Zoning Appeals and served as the president of the Hagerstown Washington County Chamber of Commerce. His greatest impact on agriculture was likely his five year tenure on the Governor's Farm Preservation Task Force, which developed the proposals that became the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Program. Leonard is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Crist and husband, Jeff; two sons, David Lowry and wife Mara, and Daniel Lowry and partner, Don Henderson; five grandchildren, Penni Lowry and friend, Rick; Wayne Lowry and wife, Karen; Scott Lowry and wife, Gina, Stacie Schnebly and husband, Jeremy, and Ashley Adams and husband Josh; one great-grandchild, Austin Schnebly and three step great-grandchildren, Andrea, Olivia and Carlos Irons. He was preceded in death by a brother, William E. Lowry. Services will be held at 11 am, Friday, July 10, 2015 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Steve Wagoner, Pastor Curt Lowry and Chaplin Mike Simane of Hospice will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Minnich Funeral Home.
