LEONARD WILSON BARTON, 74, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Broadmore Memory Care in Hagerstown. Born January 11, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles and Edith Vulgamott Barton. Leonard was employed with the City of Hagerstown Fire Department as a firefighter, retiring after 26 years of service. He was a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211, and Beaver Creek Country Club. Leonard was an avid golfer and bowler. He also held a black belt in Karate. Leonard is survived by his daughter, Susan L. Barton of Hagerstown; two sons, Donald W. Barton and wife Lori, and Michael S. Barton and wife Jean, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Darlene Barr of Hagerstown; two brothers, George (Lefty) Barton of Tampa, FL, and Edgar Barton of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Hannah Barton of Hagerstown; three grandsons, Joseph Barton of New Kensington, PA, Justin Barton and Zachary Barton, both of Hagerstown; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Rae (Sue) Elizabeth Barton; three brothers, Jack Barton, Donald Barton, and William Barton. Services will be held 11am, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home.
