LEON T. "Stu" STEWART, 85, of Falling Waters, WV, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015, at Meritus Medical Center. Born December 17, 1929 in Pickens County, SC, he was the son of the late Paul Lee and Laura Bell Smith Stewart. Leon was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army. He was employed with Mack Truck for twenty-six years retiring in 1991. Leon previously owned and operated Stu's Atlantic Service Station on Dual Highway. He also worked as an insurance agent with Peoples Life Insurance Company. Leon was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as an usher for many years, served on several committees, attended Bible study classes for a number of years; and also served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council. He was a member of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42, and a longtime member of The Beaver Creek Country Club. He was the first chairman of the Board of Directors for the Bull Dog Federal Credit Union serving as Membership Officer and thirty-four years as Treasurer. Leon served on the UAW 171 Council for twelve years; was a member of the UAW 171 Golf League serving as President for two years; and was also a member of the UAW 171 Softball League and other leagues. In High School, Leon played football. While service in the military, he played baseball, football, and basketball. He also played baseball with a traveling league. Leon was an active member of the Washington County Junior Football League for five years; managed and coached little league baseball for Halfway Minor League, and managed a team in the American Little League. Leon was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, June Brown Stewart in 1992. He is survived by two daughters, Linda McCabe of Clermont, FL, and Lisa Hadley of Lake Lure, NC; one son, John L. Stewart of Falling Waters, WV; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held 11am, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Betty Wolinski will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion. The family will receive friend's Friday from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home.
