LEON ALDINE SPESSARD, 88, of Hampton, VA, formerly of Hagerstown, MD, died Friday, August 7, 2009 at Newport News Nursing and Rehab Center in Newport News, VA. Born May 12, 1921 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Charles W. Spessard, Sr. and Addie M. Ketzel Spessard. His wife, Margaret �Margie� Eloise Spessard, preceded him in death on December 10, 2000. ` He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp. He was retired from Fairchild Aircraft after 40 years. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for 35 years and a member of the Golden Rule Sunday school Class. He was a member of BPOE Elks, a life member of VFW, Post 1936, Dixon Troxell Post 211 American Legion, Improved Order of Red Men #84, Woodmen of the World, life member of Am Vets, Post #10, Fairchild Oldtimers, Hagerstown Suns Fan Club, Scottish Rite of Freemasons Cumberland 32 degree Mason, Ali Ghan AADNMS Shrine of Cumberland, MD., Hagerstown Shrine Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, York Right Blue Lodge AF&AM, Ithiel Royal Arch Chapter #27, St. Bernard Commandery #9 Knights Templar, Palestine Council #16 R and SM; The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of MD., Hagerstown Junior Fire Company #3 and Fairchild Production Workers Union UAW. He is survived by one son, Robert Spessard and wife, Ching-Yun Spessard of Hampton, VA; one brother, Lewis Spessard of Annandale, Virginia; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles W. Spessard, Jr. Service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin Street, Hagerstown, MD. 21740. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
