Leon Edwin Shumaker, Jr., 70, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday afternoon, May 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born May 27, 1955, in Maryland, he was the beloved son of the late Leon Edwin Shumaker, Sr. and Delores Eileen (Mongan) Shumaker of Sharpsburg.

Leon was a 1972 graduate of Boonsboro High School. Over the years, he worked for Manbeck's Bakery, Monumental Life Insurance, and Baltimore Life Insurance Companies, and later as a contractor for The Herald-Mail. Beyond his work, Leon found great joy in bowling, racehorse ownership, and spending time at the racetrack watching the sport he loved.

Above all, Leon treasured his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Kristine Shumaker; his sons, Leon Shumaker III and wife, Stefanie, and Chad Shumaker and wife, Jessica Martin; his daughter, Sydney Shumaker; granddaughter, Raven Keller and husband, Robert; great-granddaughter, Stephanie Keller; sister, June Pierce; niece, Jackie; nephews, Christopher, Merrill, and Chase; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. A memorial service celebrating Leon's life will begin at 5 p.m. following the visitation, with Pastor Don Kretzer officiating.
