LEO WOODROW SOCKS, 74, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Born September 29, 1938 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ernest R. Socks, Sr. and Anna Elizabeth King Socks. He was a retired Gunnery Sergeant in the military. He was a member of VFW, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Clear Spring American Legion. He is survived by Phyllis Socks, his wife of 57 years; a daughter, Kelly Shank and husband Kevin; two sons, Charles (Eddie) Socks and wife Cathy and David Socks and wife Kimberly; grandchildren, Stacie Ryland and husband Bradley, Charles Socks, Jr. and wife April, Kerri Shank and fianc Steve Pompell, Kevin Shank and wife Lindsey and Jessika Wilt and husband Caleb; great grandchildren, Austin, Kaitlyn, Destiny, Brady, Devyn, Alex, Dominic, Andrew, Alexis, Steven, Brandon, Kevin, Dillan, Kailey, Madysen and Haley; two sisters, Evelyn "Ebb" Renner and Betty Neff; a brother, Ronald L. Socks; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Grove and Patricia Parks and brothers, Ernest Socks, Jr., Charles Socks, Robert Socks and Kenneth Socks. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Rev. Scott Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, Md. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
