LAWRENCE RAY (MONK) MCGOWAN, 78, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center. Born February 27, 1938, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Lawrence W. and Mearl Godlove McGowan Williams and step-father, Richard S. Williams. Lawrence retired in2000 from Independent Cement Company after thirty-six years of service. He attended Downsville Christian Church. He was a life member of Western Maryland Sportsman's Club and Goodwill Athletic Club. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years of marriage, Anna Jean McGowan; one daughter, Winky Bowers and husband, Greg of Falling Waters, WV; one son, Rodney McGowan and wife, Beth of Martinsburg, WV; one sister, Lucille Keyser of Hagerstown, MD; one brother, Bernard Williams of TN; one grandson and three great -grand grandchildren and one foster grandson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma (Dutchie) Hoover and 2 brothers, Carl (Deener) McGowan and Paul McGowan. Services will be held 1:00p.m.Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Craig L. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. The family requests the omission of flowers.
