Born on May 3, 1968, in Hagerstown, MD, Laurie's life was a testament to her passionate spirit and unwavering dedication to her loved ones.
Laurie attended South Hagerstown High School, graduating in 1986. Her vibrant personality and infectious smile were a source of joy to all who knew her. Laurie's commitment to her community was evident through her work with the afterschool program at the YMCA, where she touched the lives of many young individuals with her kindness and care.
Family was the cornerstone of Laurie's life. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard E. Griffith, her loving second father, Joseph E. Gladden, and her mother, Nettie C. L. Gladden. Her legacy continues through her beloved son, Joshua Bates, and his partner, Dylan. Joshua was the very essence of her existence. Laurie's son was her life—her heartbeat living outside of her chest.
Laurie also leaves behind a loving sister, Julie Shank, and her husband, Dale, a brother, Brian Griffith, and his wife, Wendy, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she embraced every opportunity to show them just how much they meant to her.

Laurie's interests and joys were simple yet profound. She found great pleasure in the company of her cherished cat, Tink, and the beauty of lilies. Her weekends were brightened by the tradition of breakfast with her son, a ritual that symbolized their unbreakable bond.
Those who knew Laurie would describe her as loving, courageous, and passionate. She faced life's challenges with a fighter's spirit, never allowing adversity to dim the light of her enormous heart.
