LAURA MARGARET SPENCE, 75, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD. Born April 2, 1938 in Hancock, MD, she was the daughter of the late Resley and Vesta Keefer Weller. Laura was a member of the Valley Grace Brethren Church of Hagerstown. She taught Sunday school for many years at Grace Brethren Church of Spruce Street, Hagerstown. She loved to play the organ and keyboard. Laura would prepare meals for the sick, and was a caregiver for the sick. She was also a dog lover. Laura was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Sherrie Lee Spence; two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Spence, Sr.; three daughters, Debra Henson and husband Todd of Charleston, SC, Tammy Smith and husband Robert of Hagerstown, Lori Harris and husband David of Fairplay, MD.; one son, James Spence Jr of Fairplay, MD; one brother, Eugene Weller of Greencastle, PA; one sister, Shelba Jean Kelly of Gettysburg, PA; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 11am, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Daniel J. Pritchett will officiate.
